I am Japanese but have lived and traveled in many countries during my adult life. Everywhere I go, I was touched by how so many people love Japanese culture and products. One day, as I looked at my kimono in the wardrobe, I wondered, 'How many times will I wear this?' That thought sparked the idea of Himé – creating something precious and wearable from traditional Japanese heritage.
Bringing Kimono Fabrics to Life
We travel regularly to Japan to source antique fabrics for our designs, focusing on the ‘Obi’ belt fabric from the Kimono outfit. This heavier grade silk is handwoven and rich with intricate patterns. Each Obi yields only 4-10 handbags, making every bag truly unique and exclusive – a limited-edition piece you’ll treasure forever.
